Success is an outcome of several small choices at each stage of life, as one grows.

When I was young, I had my eyes on joining Munteme Technical School (TECO). In our village, everyone who had graduated from TECO was self-reliant.  These are folks who had their own small carpentry business, mechanics shop, masonry outfits. They are the ones who were a reference point for village success.

On the other hand, children who went to the opposite hill, Munteme Fatima College (MUFACO), to pursue secondary education, none made it. These are folks who would later become a nobody. Boys who would engage in small errands, stealing food crops while they are still in the garden and of course playing cards and gambling.

My first life choice was to go to TECO. Unfortunately, I never made it.

I was guided that people who get far ahead in a career, go to MUFACO, and then to Makerere University Kampala. Those are folks who later become Chief Administrative officers and leading politicians who control ALL the resources of the country by employing the best brains Uganda has to offer. If you want to win, go to Makerere.

I made a life choice to pursue secondary education with a focus on getting into MAK. I finally did it and with hindsight, it was the best choice.

In life, you will have to make choices over the following:

What to read and what not to?

Which skill or talent to develop and which ones not to?

Whom to listen to and who not to listen to?

Who to marry and by when and whether such is even a relevant question to even answer?

How to keep your body mind and soul great, what do to and what to avoid?

And of course, whom to work with and which kind of people not to work with. And when you have a job, which attitude make you outstanding and which attitude to avoid. It is all your choice.

And so many more life choices.

Do choose well. Remember, some decisions once taken, cannot be redone. Be careful when making such decisions. Ask. Consult. And of course, get all the information you require. For some decisions, you have the flexibility to change. Be swift with these.

Go thrive
