The late is a big sister to my wife, Mugisa Audrey. At the time of her death, Winnie was Head Teacher, Kakindo Senior Secondary School, Hoima.

She was a great educationist, dedicating her professional life teaching in Bunyoro. She joined Duhaga SS as a Teacher in 1995, where she worked for 20 years, rising to the position of Deputy Head Teacher, by the time she was transferred to Nalweyo SS, Kakumiro in 2015. Previously, she worked as HM Mabaale SS, before joining Kakindo SS.

She loved teaching. And as they say, teachers transform lives. My wife always told me stories of her very generous hand, always providing financial and career guidance unreservedly to all her students.

Born on 19th September 1971, in Rwanyankara Nyamirima, Kyeizooba Bushenyi District, to Phoebe and the Late Ephraim Ruziziira, as fourth born, she went to Nyamirima Primary, then Kyeizooba Girls, proceeded to Makerere Univeristy for a degree in Education and then Uganda Christian University for a Masters degree in Human Resource Management. She died at 52 after a long battle with cancer.

A once strong and jolly lady, Winnie-fought hard, an enemy that is persistent. And slowly she started giving in by getting tired of the drugs, appetite less eating and drinking.

In January 2018, she came triumphant after the first Chemotherapy. However, her life changed with a permanent mark on her body (breast). She was winning until Coronavirus paid her a visit in 2021, which she survived but could have affected some of her key organs especially the liver.

On Sunday 23rd October 2022, while driving from Hoima, my wife called to check on her. She instructed, “you must visit me today.” It was unlike her. She has always been hopeful, positive and jolly.

When we checked on her she was visibly weak. Was not eating nor drinking. She complained of pain in the stomach. We took her to hospital immediately, where she was referred to a specialist hospital. We took her to Le Memorial.

She was stabilized. She asked for her mother and children to come. As we planned for their travels, she was taken for a scan which revealed water in the chest. From then on, the clock ran down fast, and she passed.

May Her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
